"They fall in line,
One at a time,
Ready to play.
No time to lose,
We've got to move,
Steady your hand.
Fire your gun,
It's time to run,
Blow me away.
After the fall,
We'll shake it off,
Show me the way.
Only the strongest will survive,
Lead me in heaven when we die.
I have a shadow on the wall,
I'll be the one to save us all."
- Blow me away; Breaking Benjamin.
Even amoung the long-lived dragons, he is considered old. Not ancient, but old. Kiet has seen eleven and a half millenniums, three mates, and a nestful of children. The Celestial Plain was a haven for his kind, and for the most part, their only home. Kiet had a taste for weak females in need of protection, and his mates reflected that taste. He provided everything for them, food, shelter, protection, willingly and happily. His first mate would die of illness. His second, killed by a hungry male while he was out hunting. That male would end up with his neck crushed between Kiet's jaws, and his fang would eventually become Kiet's earring. His third mate, however, was something different. After ten years of time together, him taking care of her every need, she betrayed him, laying with another male, and ending up pregnant with his children. The offending male was killed quickly, and she would have faced the same fate if not for the children. For old dragon custom was such that children born of betrayal were to die upon their birth. So he was forced to wait, unwilling to kill an unborn child, thinking that their souls could not pass on to the next life at that stage. But upon their hatching, he slaughtered them quickly, and his mate as well.

He held a great deal of loyalty towards Amaterasu, the Great Mother. For this reason, when she called for his kind to aid in battle, he answered. For this, he was given the ability to take human form, like the other dragons who also heeded. Hardly a gift, for a dragon who had nothing but distaste for humans.
Still, he served as promised, carrying many different Celestial riders. This carried on for many centuries.
Then the ark fell.
Suddenly, all the riders were gone, leaving the dragons alone in the Celestial Plain. Life resumed it's slow pace there. Until a few hundred years later, when another request came out.
Aid the Oina, the Great Mother had asked. Do not let the Lunaris destroy them. So now the proud dragon would allow a human on his back, be forced to live amoung the humans..
Kiet wasn't pleased.
Upon arriving in the mortal world, the freezing land of Kamui, Kiet was partnered up with, of all things, a female. This displeased him all the more. Raiden was not his first choice for a rider. Women should hiding while a battle is raging, he had always thought. Even Meiling, one of the younger dragons, would run when an enemy approached, something Kiet attributed to her gender.
And so began the fun.
Raiden wouldn't put up with his bitching. She was tough, strong, and reserved. The qualities Kiet attributed to a warrior. At first, all he did was complain about her, put her down. After their first battle together, Raiden was badly burned, and in order to save her, Amaterasu gave her the body of a dragon. Kiet was furious, when he found out, and did nothing by rant and rave. But he grew used to it after a time. How long had it been since he had seen a mature female? ... Too long, if he was finding himself looking at her with desire.
Over the next months, they grew closer, and Kiet took to sharing her bed. This did not stop Raiden from finding comfort in other arms, however. And one particular night when Kiet found another man in her bed, he went into a rage, grabbing the man and throwing him out.
Why? This wasn't right.. ... He would only do that if he thought her to be his...
Damnit.
He nurtured a hidden obsession with her, slowly beginning to consider her his mate. When she was kidnapped, taken to the Lunar Realm, he went with the rescue party. And when they found her, she was in the middle of sex with the Celestial, Yukio, who had also been captured. Kiet attempted to kill the man, but was chased off by Cho, whom he had befriended on the way to the Lunar Realm.
They went back to Wep'keer, and it was discovered that Raiden carried Yukio's children. Kiet went into despair, waiting for the day of their birth, so he could rid himself of the threat. For in his race, if the mate of one carried the children of another, the children must die. And the mate, but Kiet did not consider this, as he had not yet told Raiden of her status in his mind.
Raiden was weak after the birth, and the child was given to Kiet. He took the squalling babe, and quietly disposed of it.
When Raiden learned of this, she refused to see him, kicking him out of her home, directing hatred toward him. It didn't matter that the child would have died anyway. He had taken it away from her too soon. He had taken what she could love, what would love her. A reason for her to continue on.
But soon enough, Kiet would provide with a reason. Would tell her that the reason the child had to die was because it was not his. That she was his.
