"You say they taught you how to read and write,
Yeah, they taught you how to count.
I say they taught you how to buy and sell
Your own body by the pound.
I think you like to be their simple toy,
I think you love to play the clown.
I think you are blind to the fact,
That the hand you hold is the hand that holds you down."

Adversity has always haunted Kylara. Born to a mother who desired nothing but money, power, and perfection, she quickly became neglected. Unlike her sisters, her mind was weak. It took her far longer then most to grasp information and concepts. Her mother, ashamed of his slowness, removed her from school, wanting no one to learn of this imperfection in her family. Her disdain of the girl was always apparent, never hidden, even when she was young. Kylara was forgiving, however, loving her mother unconditionally, unfailingly, as children often do. Even as her sisters grew and left, with no intention of returning to the house or their mother again, Kylara stayed, taking care of her now elderly mother. When her mother needed to go to a retirement home, she took the only job that could possibly hope to pay for it.
A dancer, of the most obscene kind, at one of the larger clubs in Las Vegas. A demonstration of her poor planning, as dancers cannot work forever. But she would do anything for her mother. At first, it was hard. But she quickly learned, and her personality was a perfect fit. She could make any man feel like he was the most important in the world. And it brought her many customers. Of course, there were always a few who wanted more, but she was careful. And for the most part, she was safe.
The lack of a car, and unwillingness to spend money on a cab caused her problems in the beginning. She was assaulted, followed... she was afraid.
Then came Donovan. He promised her love and protection. He was strong. She idolized him, and willingly agreed to be with him. And in the beginning he kept his word, even going so far as to pick her up from work every night. But soon enough to began to drink more in her presence. Following that was the striking when she did something that displeased him. It grew in magnitude overtime, until she was far too afraid to even consider leaving him. So she forced herself to love him, convinced herself that the beatings were her own fault, twisting her perceptions to make things easier.
She gives everything, and doesn't stop even if she gets nothing in return.
