"I'll tell you something
I am a wolf but I like to wear sheep's clothing
I am a bonfire, I am a vampire
I'm waiting for my moment
I'll tell you something
I am a demon, some say my biggest weakness
I have my reasons, call it my defense
Be careful what you're wishing"

Kaien's father had left when he realized her mother was pregnant, leaving her to care for twins by herself. She worked to make ends meet by sewing, making crafts, and doing odd jobs. She loved her children, but the work wore her out, so rarely did she get time to spend with them. They didn't resent their mother for her absence in their lives, as they realized it was her jobs that kept the family fed and in warm beds.
Growing up poor and almost alone, however, meant that Kaien and her brother quickly learned the value of a dollar and how to be independent. By the age of four, Kaien was cooking meals, making her own clothes, and taking care of the sheep. She had a particular fascination for ram, with his long, curling horns and noble face and throat. She thought he was beautiful, and the feel of his taut muscles working under his skin left her in awe of the powerful animal.
In the year that she turned eight, something within her mother snapped. The emotional and verbal abuse from the villagers, who resented her for being a 'whore', as well the psyhical and sexual abuse she was experiencing in some of her jobs weighed on her chest like a ton of bricks, crushing her with depression. She began to view her children as mistakes- mistakes that she loved, but mistakes nonetheless. Though she never laid a hand on Kaien's brother, the albino girl was often beaten during her mother's breakdowns, as she saw herself within Kaien- a hard working, weak girl that was doomed to become just like herself.
Repeatedly during this abuse she would tell her daughter that she would suffer all her life, that she would amount to nothing, as she wasn't meant to be there. She was the cog that had stopped working in the big machine, bringing down everyone with her. The village would be a much better place without a useless, broken piece of machinery.
After these attacks, her mother would always apologize and hug her, sobbing into her shoulder, but the damage was done.

Kaien moved out of the house by age sixteen. Her mother died of pneumonia when she was fourteen, and by fifteen, her brother had left to move to Nippon. Kaien's decision to move was only made out of the subconscious fear she had of the old house; a year after her migration into a bigger, more isolated home, the old hut was torn down by a blizzard, though it did not take with it the albino's mental scars.
Her love for strong beasts had grown, and soon Kaien bought herself a large dog, naming it Genjuu, 'Strong'. Part wolf, he was a fine animal, with an alpha male's handsome face and a fit build. He made the teenager feel whole, more so then any human ever had. Humans had always abandoned or betrayed her in some way; animals, she decided, were pure of heart, the only creatures capable of true love and companionship.
The albino became a recluse, sharing her life with many domesticated animals over the years, until one day she discovered her ability to summon from the heart of Kumai many ferocious, amazing creatures...
.*.
Now living a rich, comfortable life, Kaien shares many friendships with her beloved animals. There is no making friends with the woman, as every word spoken to a human is either meant to manipulate or insult. But she is quite helpful, and will take on any nasty you have hiding under your bed at night with the help of her beasts.
For the right price, of course.
